The Amp Up Story: Driven by Precision, Built for Adventure
Hayden Dowling didn’t just stumble into the auto electrical trade, he was born into it. With family deeply rooted in the industry for two generations, 4WDs, caravans, and touring setups have always been the backdrop of his life. Even now, family dinners have a habit of turning into casual debriefs about the latest jobs, new caravan builds, and industry innovations. Other families talk about the weather; the Dowlings talk about wiring diagrams.
Finding his exact niche took a bit of exploring. After high school, Hayden was accepted into QUT’s Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Aerospace, picturing a path full of hands-on building, maybe even rockets. It didn’t take long to realise the degree was far more theory than tools, and what he really wanted was to be the one actually building, testing, and problem-solving with his hands. So he decided to shift gears.
He went on to complete his auto electrical apprenticeship with the team at Offroad Creative in Yatala. Today, Hayden brings that same rigorous, engineering mindset into every build and upgrade at Amp Up.

You’ll often find him stress pull-testing his own lug crimps just to make sure they outperform the standard factory ones, purely for the satisfaction of it.
He believes a system shouldn’t just run perfectly under heavy load, it should look neat enough to photograph too. That’s why he sticks to premium, trusted gear like Victron, REDARC, and Enerdrive, and makes sure every wire is vibration-resistant and routed like it means something.
